Fall Apples and Organic Greens at Morning Shade Farm
Morning Shade Farm has Gold Rush and Crispin (Mutsu) apples for $1.00/lb already picked or $0.80/lb u-pick. These are great eating, storage, cooking and drying apples that have had only organic sprays used on the trees several months back. In the organic garden we also have a couple kinds of u-pick kale and chard (10 stems/$1), and brussel sprouts ($1.25/lb).
Gold rush apples are such a wonderful apple that the state of Illinois has designated it their state fruit. It is characterized by a complex, rich spicy flavor that retains its complex sprightly flavor and crisp, firm texture for at least 7 months in cold storage. The cultivar has been rated consistently as the highest quality apple after storage of all selections or cultivars tested at Purdue University.
Crispin (called Mutsu in it's native Japan) is a large, sweet, honey flavoured apple that is great for fresh eating and a famous cooking apple for pies or just baking whole. Great for this upcoming Thankgiving feast.
While you are out why not pick up a few Blueberry Bushes or other berry plants for the yard or garden. We have 20 varieties in 1 gallon and 3 gallon pots. These can make great Christmas presents for your family or friends as well.
